Anticipation was running high as Fay athletes approached their first competitive spring

season in three years. Athletics Director Rob Feingold notes that the energy of the spring season was exceptional: “I was struck by the sense of newness as so many kids competed in spring sports here for the first time—there was so much genuine excitement to get back out there.”

 

The performance of the girls softball program was a highlight of the season, with the varsity team going undefeated at 12-0-1. Their game against Newton Country Day School was the only nail-biter, ending in an 11-11 tie. The future looks bright for Fay softball as the 5-6 team notched a perfect season at 5-0.

 

The tennis program remains strong, with deep rosters and enough players for five teams this spring, including boys and girls teams at the varsity level, co-ed teams for JV and 5-6, and an intramural tennis option. Girls varsity tennis continued their winning ways, finishing the season 9-1, and boys varsity tennis ended with a 6-3-1 record and a promising contingent of players returning next year.

 

The varsity baseball team ended with a 6-6 record, including their games at the Junior School Baseball Tournament. Their final game was an exciting 14-13 win over Fessenden. Under

the long-tenured coaching of Max Bogaert and John Beloff, the program is looking strong into the future, with Will Sargent’s 5-6 team ending with a 5-2 record.

 

The lacrosse program faced some of the stiffest competition of the spring teams, and Fay’s players more than held their own. The boys varsity lacrosse team placed third in the Junior School Lacrosse Tournament, besting Fessenden 5-1 in the third-place game. This was Head Coach Rob Feingold’s 11th year coaching the team, which this year had a remarkable number of strong athletes playing lacrosse for the first time. In a promising sign of growth, boys lacrosse was able to field three teams for the first time in many years. The girls lacrosse program also fielded three strong teams at the 5-6, JV, and varsity levels. The tenacity of the girls varsity lacrosse team was evident in the remarkable number of ties they drew this season. The team ended with a record of 4-4-3, matching up against some very talented teams. Head Coach Grace Crowell, who played lacrosse for Colby College, joined the program this season and can look forward to deep rosters of strong players in the future.

 

Track and field continues to be one of the most popular spring sports options, with 49 athletes competing in the shot put, javelin, and long jump and running the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, the mile, and relay events. Girls track had a 7-0 record and were undefeated in the long jump and shot-put, with impressive wins against Shore and Pike. Boys track was 6-2, with talented runners setting school records in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and 800m this season!
