Advisory

At Fay, your teachers know you well.

Fay is a deeply connected community, and every student on our campus has a strong network of adults with whom they build meaningful relationships. Ask any student in any division, and they won’t just point to their classroom teacher as an adult who knows them well—they’ll also tell you about the music teacher who helped them with a challenging piece of music, the coach who had just the right words after a tough game, the librarian who reserved for them the next book in their favorite series, the division assistant who helped them organize their backpack at the end of the day.

Our advisory program is a key component of this network of connection, because we know how important it is for every student to have a point person and a home base for checking in.

In fifth and sixth grade, students meet in small, mixed-age “homevisory” groups at the beginning and end of each day to organize their belongings, talk about the day, and build friendships. In the Upper School, students are assigned to small advisory groups that gather each day. Each advisor helps his or her students with the day-to-day business of the school day, social relationships, and other issues as they arise. These strong bonds are deeply meaningful to our students, and when our alumni come back to visit, one of their first stops is always to reconnect with their advisor.

"My advisory group really means a lot to me. We have gotten to know each other well over the past year, and we're kind of like our own family at Fay." - Fay student
