Catching Up with Stephen McNulty '18

Stephen McNulty '18 has spread his time at Phillips Exeter across a variety of interests and activities. Chief among these, Stephen has worked to help develop Exeter's grief infrastructure -- he currently serves as co-President of Exeter's Fight Club, a peer-based affinity space for students who have experienced a death loss. Over the course of his tenure, Fight Club has worked to spread its reach and impact, and membership has doubled over the past year. Stephen also worked as a summer intern at Experience Camps for Grieving Children, which provides camp experiences to bereaved children. In this capacity, he helped develop hundreds of text communications for 2020's virtual programming and developed several new camp locations as part of his strategic goals for expansion.

At Exeter, he's involved in other activities as well. Stephen serves as the co-President and Secretary-General of Exeter's Model United Nations team, which recently hosted its first ever virtual PEAMUN conference. Some 300 delegates from seven states and three countries were in attendance at the conference for a whole day of debate, heralded by a keynote speech from Ambassador Samantha Power. He also worked as an Opinions Editor on The Exonian, Exeter's weekly student newspaper, and recently helped write and edit its recent 30-page special issue, Since 1878, which attempted to chronicle the history of race at Phillips Exeter, decade-by-decade, through the lens of its student newspaper.

Stephen remains involved in other activities on-campus, as well -- he sings in Exeter's Concert Choir, is involved in the school musical and other theatre productions, co-heads Exeter's TTBB a cappella group, serves as co-President of Exeter's Ethics Forum, directs the school's Catholic student group, works on the Interfaith Council, and is a Boarding Proctor in Knight House.
