Per Diem Nurse

Description:

The Summer Camp Nurse provides nursing services, first aid, illness assessment, and health maintenance to day and residential campers during the School’s eight week summer programs, running from June 24, 2024 - August 16, 2024. The Summer Camp Nurse reports to the Assistant Head of School for Finance and Operation.
Successful candidates will have effective communication skills, sound judgment, and resourcefulness. The ability to work independently is essential. The normal work schedule is 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday 8:00 – 4:00. This is a non-exempt, summer position that is eligible for overtime.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a minimum of three years of school, camp, or pediatric nursing experience and must maintain a current Massachusetts RN or LPN license and certifications in CPR and First Aid. Fay School seeks a motivated, resourceful, and flexible nurse with excellent interpersonal skills, who understands the health needs of children and can work in a cooperative environment with minimal medical supervision. Candidates must be team players and possess strong oral and written communication skills, including communication with residential students learning English and parents who may have minimal English skills. Candidates must be comfortable working in a multicultural setting with a strong commitment to equity and inclusion. The ability to work efficiently, quickly, and accurately is vital. Comfort with Google applications and the willingness to learn internal medical records software are required.

Responsibilities include:
  • Providing nursing services for sick or injured campers with the ability to stay beyond scheduled hours on occasion if required
  • Providing first aid, illness assessment, and health maintenance to campers
  • Administering daily prescription and PRN medication according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Medication Administration guidelines
  • Communicating with parents, guardians, or consultants about student illnesses and care plans
    Maintaining accurate documentation of individual camper visits to the Health Office
  • Consulting with administrators, teachers, and camp personnel to provide a safe and healthy environment
  • Identifying campers who exhibit health or emotional needs and providing health crisis intervention as needed
  • Providing for the well-being of the camp community by monitoring immunizations, screening for infectious illnesses, and reporting diseases as required by law
