Red and White Teams Welcome New Members

Daintry Zaterka
Today, 158 new students in Primary, Lower, and Upper School were sorted into the red or white color teams. The color competition is one of Fay’s most beloved traditions. Throughout the school year, the two teams compete in challenges of academic, artistic, and athletic skill. When effort grades for students in grades three through nine are released every two weeks, the results are tallied, and the winning team is announced in Upper School Morning Meeting to enthusiastic applause from the victors. A highlight of the spring term is the Color Competition, a field day event that brings together the entire student body to compete in events like the potato sack race, an obstacle course, and a red versus white tug o’ war in each grade.

Division Heads announced each new student by name at today’s ceremonies and then revealed whether they would join the red or white team. Red Color Team President Jeremiah C. ’22 and White Color Team President Marko W. ’22 donned their team blazers to present each student with their new color team t-shirt. One of the fun aspects of the color team tradition is that siblings and students with family members that have attended Fay are always put on the same team. Can you tell how excited first graders Abby and Anne Z., pictured above, are to find out that they will both be on the red team?

The presentation ceremony was followed by Jeremiah and Marko teaching students their respective team cheers and a little friendly competition to see which team could cheer the loudest! New students will join their teammates across the school in celebrating Spirit Day next Wednesday, which marks the first day of athletic competition for the fall. Go, Fay!
