Fay Notches a Strong Performance at the Fessenden Wrestling Tournament
On Saturday, February 23, 12 members of the Fay wrestling team competed in the 50th annual Fessenden Wrestling Tournament. This tournament represents the New England Jr. Prep Wrestling Championships and included over 160 participants, with each school sending their top 12 wrestlers to compete.
Eight of Fay's 12 wrestlers placed to help the team finish fourth out of the 14 teams attending the event. Wrestlers who placed included Marc G. '20 in fourth place; third place finishers Tom H. '20, Erick O. '19, and Slava I. '20; second place finishers Pato H. '20 and Tyler B. '21; and first place finishers Chris M. '20 and Ibrahim A. '20.
The 123 team points scored was the highest team point score for Fay in the past eight years, beating out 2014's team score of 104 points. The 2014 team also finished in fourth place that year. Fay's score was only two points ahead of the fifth place team, Fessenden, which means that even wrestlers who didn't finish in a place helped the team reach fourth place by getting at least one pin in the tournament.
Congratulations to all the wrestlers on a fantastic season! The entire team is excited to have five out of the eight placing winners returning for next year's team, along with some fresh new recruits who will help the team do even better!
