• Introduction to Greek Theater

  In this term elective, students explore the origins and foundation of western theater by examining the conventions, culture, and playwrights of Ancient Greece.  Students learn about the life, times, and works of the four major Greek playwrights and examine their influence on modern theater by making connections to contemporary works of art. The course culminates with students working in small groups and being endowed as directors, actors, and designers as they work together to stage a scene for their classmates from either a classical Greek text or a contemporary adaptation.

• Sketch Comedy

  In this term elective, students sharpen their comedic playwriting skills. Students hone their comedic abilities, both as performers and as writers, by participating in a variety of creative writing prompts and classic improvisational scenarios. The course culminates with students working either individually or in small groups to select, develop, refine, workshop, and "polish" one complete four-to-five minute comedic sketch, which will then be performed for a select audience within the Upper School community.

• Theater for Young Audiences

  In this term elective, students refine their physical, vocal, emotional, and imaginative theater skills with a focus on exaggerated, high energy, larger-than-life depictions of storybook characters. Students participate in dramatic activities that bolster confidence, foster conviction, and encourage strong acting choices. The course culminates with students working in small groups or as a class; they will select an age-appropriate picture book or story and adapt it into a short performance for the Primary School.
