Description
The School Nurse provides nursing services, first aid, and injury and illness assessment to students in the Fay Primary School and Early Learning Center during the school year. The School Nurse reports to the Lead Nurse and collaborates with other Fay nurses to provide comprehensive nursing coverage to Fay School students in grades K-2 and children enrolled in
The Early Learning Center at Fay.
Successful candidates must have strong clinical skills, outstanding organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and excellent time management skills. Candidates must demonstrate sound judgment and resourcefulness. The ability to work independently is essential. The normal work schedule is 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. This is a full-time, school-year position that is eligible for benefits.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a current Massachusetts RN or LPN license, with a minimum of five years’ supervised nursing experience, and maintain certifications in CPR and First Aid. We seek a motivated, resourceful, and flexible nurse with excellent judgment and interpersonal skills who understands the health needs of children and who can work in a shared, cooperative environment with minimal medical supervision. Candidates must be team players and possess strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to work with summer residential students learning English and parents who may have minimal English skills. The ability to work efficiently, quickly, and accurately is vital. Comfort with Microsoft Office applications and Google applications and the willingness to learn internal medical records software are required.
Responsibilities Include

Providing nursing services for sick or injured students during school hours (8:00 AM - 4:00 PM) with the ability to occasionally stay beyond scheduled hours if required

Providing first aid as well as injury and illness assessment

Administering daily prescription and PRN medication according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Medication Administration guidelines

Communicating with parents and/or faculty about student illnesses and care plans

Developing health care plans with interventions and goals in accordance with school nursing practice with the consulting physician.

Maintaining accurate documentation of individual student visits to the Health Office

Consulting with administrators, teachers, and other nurses to provide a safe and healthy school environment

Providing for the physical safety of the school community by monitoring immunizations, screening for infectious illness, and reporting diseases as required by law

Identifying students who exhibit health or emotional needs and providing health education and crisis intervention as needed, including referral to Fay School Counseling Services for emotional health issues

Actively support and promote a school culture of equity, inclusion, and belonging
