Second Grade Garden Mural
It’s not every day that Primary School students get to paint on walls, but a temporary wall erected during construction on the Primary Building Expansion outside the second grade classroom proved too tempting a canvas to resist. Over the past few weeks, second graders have been taking turns adding color and details to a vibrant nature mural. Spearheaded by Assistant Teacher Annabel Chase, the project reflects ideas generated by second graders who brainstormed essential elements for the design. Each of the thirty-two students will paint a portion of the mural, making it a truly collaborative work of art. The mural depicts a scene from the Primary School Garden. In the background are three apple trees, each representing a different season: winter, spring, and summer. In front of the trees, a garden bed, marked with Fay’s founding year, 1866, shows the passage of time, transitioning from snow-covered soil to blooming flowers, bringing the seasonal scene to life. Students are putting the finishing touches on the mural, adding native animals like a red fox, a robin, a grey squirrel, and bees from the Primary’s Observation Hive.
