Spanish Profiles
Fifth grade Spanish students connected to the Spanish-speaking world and explored its diversity by researching and profiling famous Hispanic people this month. Each student in Laia Roig’s class selected a well-known person from a Spanish-speaking country and learned about their background and achievements. Then, students created posters to share with their class, illustrating who the person is, where they are from, why they are famous, their age, and their birthday.
Students chose a wide array of figures, including Spanish figure skater Sonia Lafuente, Puerto Rican rapper, singer-songwriter, Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio (a.k.a. Bad Bunny), and France Córdova, an astrophysicist of Mexican descent. As part of their presentation to the class, Laia asked each student to respond to questions about their chosen person in Spanish. This provided them with the opportunity to practice their comprehension as well as to respond with the appropriate sentence structure, pronunciation, and expression.
