Technology enables us to communicate and deliver educational content, but it’s important to make sure it is used as a tool for learning appropriately and not the sole focus of your child's learning at home. Our fabulous Fay faculty will be using a range of tools such as Zoom, Google Classroom, Google Calendar, Gmail, and Seesaw, but it's the mix of collaborative teaching, independent learning, and parent involvement that makes learning meaningful.
Here are some tips on how to help your child have an immersive and engaging remote learning experience:
1. Find a quiet, distraction-free environment for your child to be online and interact with their teacher and classmates.
2. Get up, go to school! Keep a routine, and stick to your schedule.
3. If possible, change the location of your child’s “home office” periodically for a change of scenery and to promote healthy ergonomics.
4. Encourage regular breaks to do other activities so your child can rest their eyes and move around. Physical breaks are critical to successful online learning.
5. Make sure you have all the supplies you need on hand ahead of time, like printer ink and paper.
6. Keep devices charged and ready for use to avoid delays attending a scheduled live session.
7. If possible, plug your device into an ethernet (network) cable that connects directly to your Internet router. This will improve video quality and mitigate some Internet lag issues.
8. If you have Internet speed issues, contact your Internet service provider for support.
9. Fay’s security filters are in place, but make sure you check your child’s email occasionally in case of spam or unwanted messages. Notify the Fay School Service desk if needed.
10. You may need to print materials for your child. Our remote learning materials can be accessed and downloaded from any computer or mobile device.
