Clubs (K - Grade 4)

Fay After School Clubs, Winter Term 2021

Winter 2021 Clubs begin on January 21 and each club meets once per week, from 3:00 - 4:30 pm. Please carefully check the dates that each club meets. 

During the winter of 2021, please note that all clubs are grouped by grade in order to follow COVID-19 procedures and to help keep our students safe. Each day of the week there is a single club offering for each individual grade. In previous years, we have been able to offer more options, and we hope to continue this once social distancing restrictions are lifted. 

Please note that Clubs must have a minimum enrollment to run. If a program has low enrollment, students will be able to transfer to another Club or receive a refund.

  • Karate - Kindergarten

    Our karate club helps develop teamwork, balance, control, discipline, focus, memory, coordination, and fitness by using fun karate drills and exercises. These skills will ultimately benefit students in school, and at home. During the club, students can work to earn their white belt or a stripe to add to their white belt if they already have one.

  • Sewing Club - Grade 1

    Sewing is fun! In this class, students will learn the basics of the sewing machine (including safety!) as well as some different hand stitches. They will use their new skills to sew some creative projects including bags, stuffed animals, and accessories. Each project will take about 2-3 weeks to complete. No experience is necessary - beginners are welcome, and projects will be different from previous terms.

  • Animal Robotics - Grade 2

    Does your child love animals? During this club, students will create their own animal inspired robotic models from LEGO’s. They will learn about gear ratio, sensors, simple machines, and programming as they build insects, dolphins, gorillas, and much more!

  • Arts, Crafts, Baking and Slime! - Grade 3

    Students will be tasked with fun challenges to create their own winter wonderland using a different creative medium each week. They will make cookies, decorate an edible penguin in a winter scene, make snow globes, create frozen snow slime, and much more! Each week will have a unique theme and students will be able to take all of their creations home to enjoy.

  • Sewing Club - Grade 4

    During this club, students are given individual LEGO kits and are challenged to build creatively, solve problems, think outside the box, experiment, test solutions, and improve upon designs. Students will learn about basic math, science, and engineering principles including friction, simple levers, motion, and momentum. There will be a different theme introduced each week.

  • Animal Robotics - Grade 1

    During this club, students are taught using a curriculum integrating traditional method books and computer software to allow students to learn at their own pace. Daily practice at home is expected and is essential to student progress. Students in this club are encouraged to register each trimester for the full 2020-2021 academic year, as a recital is scheduled at the end. Space in this club will be limited to just 6 students.

  • Yoga + Mindfulness - Kindergarten

    During this club, we will incorporate fun and creative themes each week, along with games, storytelling, songs, and mindful crafts. Students will learn yoga postures to help improve focus, concentration, coordination, strength, and self-confidence. Our student friendly mindfulness techniques instill practices of breathing and visualization that bring calmness and inner peace. The principles in this class will also teach kindness and compassion.

  • Science Club: Radical Reactions - Grade 2

    During this club, students will learn about chemistry and matter from temperature shifting, color changing, loud, and gooey reactions! They will be able to demonstrate some of the coolest chemical changes known to scientists through experiments with bubble explosions, the human torch, and acid-eating monsters!

  • LEGO STEM Club: Wonders of the World - Grade 3

    Through studying many of the engineering wonders of the world, students will learn about new and old engineering accomplishments, how they work, and how they were built. There will be a different theme each week of this club, and students will be encouraged to think outside the box, experiment, test, and improve on their own engineering wonders.

  • Game Bots Robotics - Grade 4

Each build will then be connected to a tablet through Bluetooth and programmed to spin, move, jump, and more. Whether creating a robotic hockey player, pinball machine, or a ring toss, students will have fun building, learning, and playing.

  • App Developer - Grade 4 (14 Weeks)

    This 14-week club teaches students essential skills to be a coder, and the mindset to be an entrepreneur, by challenging them to design, build, and release their own iPhone app for a real-non-profit organization. Apps created by prior students have been for charities, food banks, and schools, and they are actually being used right now!

    To participate in this club, students do not need any prior coding experience, and the instructors will teach them everything they need to know. The VineyardApp Camp instructors are empathetic and experienced Ivy-League coding experts, and they will help students gain an exciting set of 21st-century tech skills, as they learn about innovation and entrepreneurship.

  • HERO: Multi-Sports - Grade 2

    While maintaining physical distancing, our Multi-Sport Club will offer different sports including soccer, floor hockey, volleyball, gymnastics, yoga, obstacle courses, and more! Taught by HERO Sports coaches, this club is perfect for students who want to try something new and discover a new athletic talent. HERO Sports is a specialized sports enrichment program dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of sports and the values of teamwork. This club will take place outdoors as much as possible.

  • Chess Club - Grade 3

    FAS welcomes back U.S. Chess Life Master Lou Mercuri as lead instructor for our Chess Club. During this club, students will learn the basic moves of chess and beyond - including checkmating patterns, opening strategies, tactics, famous games from the great players, and visualizing at least a couple of moves ahead. Players have the opportunity to play each other in a supervised setting with helpful tips and advice on how to improve, and they also will work in small teams to take on problem-solving challenges together.
