Winter 2020 Clubs begin the week of January 13. Please carefully check the dates that each club meets. Registration will take place from December 1 through December 15.

  • Kids Cardio Circuit Training: 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. (Grades K-2)

    Kids Cardio Circuit Training is a fun and interactive class which includes circle time, warm-up, cardio circuit training, an obstacle course, and strength building games. We will have several stations set up with different activities for students to rotate through in a short period of time. Each class ends with a discussion of individualized healthy goals and meditation with our very own Mr. Bu-dog. Your child will learn confidence, proper form, and most importantly, have fun!

  • LEGO Wonders of the World: 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. (Grades K-2)

    We’ve made our own list of engineering Wonders of the World that will both captivate your child’s imagination as well as teach them about new and old engineering accomplishments, how they work, and how they were built. We will have a different theme each week, including The Great Wall of China and the Golden Gate Bridge!

  • People Places & Things Nailed It: 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. (Grades 3-4)

    Just like on the popular TV baking show, each week students will be tasked with a challenge to re-create a complex confectionary masterpiece using pre-made ingredients like fondant, Rice Krispy treats, various frosting/icing, and more! Projects will be based on pop culture People, Places, and Things. Bring your imagination and creativity and get ready to have some confectionary fun! All ingredients are nut-free, however some pre-made ingredients may be processed in a facility that also processes nuts.

  • Chess: 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. (Grades 2-4)

    FAS welcomes back U.S. Chess Life Master Lou Mercuri as lead instructor for Chess. Students learn the basic moves of chess and beyond - including checkmating patterns, opening strategies, tactics, famous games from the great players, and visualizing at least a couple of moves ahead. Players have the opportunity to play each other in a supervised setting with helpful tips and advice on how to improve, and they also work in small teams to take on problem-solving challenges together.

  • Piano II Winter: 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. (Grades 1-4)

    Students are taught using a curriculum integrating traditional method books and computer software to allow students to learn at their own pace. Daily practice at home is expected and is essential to student progress. Students in this club are encouraged to register each trimester for the full 2019-2020 academic year as a recital is scheduled at the end of the academic year.

  • Service Club: 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. (Grades 3-4)

    Are you interested in helping your community? Sign up for an incredible opportunity to engage in service learning with the service club. The club will focus on instilling our core beliefs of empathy, purpose, and connection while allowing participants to design their own service projects. Each member of the group will become a leader within the Lower School, helping to design additional projects for classmates.

  • Mixed Media Arts & Crafts: 3:00-4:30 p.m. (Grades K-4)

    Bring your enthusiasm and imagination to create a new craft each week! Projects are designed to expand creativity and spend time with peers while learning new skills. Projects include tie-dye t-shirts, mosaics, painting on canvas with mixed media, making your own squishies, and more! All materials included, and students take all of their creations home! No experience necessary.

  • Cardio Kickboxing: 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. (Gr. 3-4)

    This class will teach your child self-defense, self-confidence, and discipline in a fun, safe, and inclusive environment. We will learn different punches and kicks, boxing drills, bag work, non-contact sparring, and work on core strength. We will end each class with healthy goals and meditation with our very own H2K Bu-Dog.

  • Sewing Winter 2019-2020: 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. (Grades 1-4)

    Sewing is fun! In this class you will learn the basics of the sewing machine (including safety!) as well as some different hand stitches. You will use your new skills to sew some creative projects including bags, stuffed animals, and accessories. Each project will take about 2 -3 classes to complete. No experience is necessary - beginners are welcome, and projects will be different from the fall! Come see what you can sew!

  • Beginning Violin: 3:00-4:30 p.m.

    (open to continuing students only)

    Through games and stories, students will learn to develop their listening and musical skills. We will focus on caring for the instrument, producing a lovely tone, playing notes in first position, and reading music. This club continues each season and will present a spring recital. Violin rentals are available through Music & Arts, French's Music, and Johnson Strings. Please bring instruments to club each week. Music books are included, but music stands and flashcards are billed separately.

  • Karate: 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. (Grades K-2)

    The karate program will develop focus, teamwork, balance, control, discipline, memory, coordination, and fitness by using fun karate drills and exercises. These skills help students in karate class, in school, and at home. Karate is about making the world a better place for the student and for those with whom they interact. Students can earn their white belt or a stripe to add to their belt if they have already earned a white belt.

  • LEGO Remote Control Vehicles: 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. (Grades 3-4)

    Students will work in groups to build a base LEGO Remote Control Vehicle and each week will modify it into a crane, forklift, digger, and vehicle of choice. Students will employ teamwork strategies, helping each other in a friendly and encouraging way.

  • Slime & STEM: 3:00-4:30 p.m. (Grades K-4)

    This jam-packed class combines our favorite STEM experiments and Slime Factory concoctions. In our STEM Laboratory, we will create fun science experiments in individual and group settings. In our borax-free Slime Factory, we will explore and concoct all new gooey mixtures. Through hands-on activities individually and in small groups, children will think, construct, experiment, discover, and develop curiosity and analytical thinking while finding solutions to problems in a fun-filled environment. All materials included, just bring yourselves! No experience necessary.
