  • American Sign Language: 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. (Gr. 3-4)

    This fun and interactive class will combine traditional teaching methods with engaging games as students learn ASL each week. Participants will learn to sign colors, letters and words, animals, things in a classroom and work on concepts in time to have conversations with one another in sign language.

  • LEGO City Planning: 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. (Gr. 3-4)

    Students work in a group to plan and build a city with essential infrastructure.  They learn what is required to run a town or city, what services the city provides, and how certain services are strategically placed within the city through zoning.  We will discuss Residential, Commercial, Industrial, and Governmental zones. We will also discuss the differences between planned and unplanned cities. They then work on building their plan in order to discover what works and what doesn’t.

    In partnership with Paradise Island Kids
    Bring your enthusiasm & imagination to create a new craft each week! Projects are designed to expand creativity and spend time with peers while learning new skills. Projects include Tie-dye T-shirts, Mosaics, Painting on Canvas w/mixed media, Making Your Own Squishies & more! All materials included, kids take all of their creations home!No experience necessary.

  • Super Sports: 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. (K- Gr. 2)

    Get up, get going, get active with the F.A.S.T. Athletics Super Sports Program. A variety of sports are offered each week such as: Soccer, Mat Ball, Football, Dodgeball, and Kickball. Program will include proper stretching and warm-up games as well as learning basic skills of each sport, each class will end with a high energy game of  the sport played that day.

    No Oven? No Problem! Join us in this fun and creative class where we will teach you the art of making our most favorite No Bake Desserts! Get ready to make something different weekly, from cookies, to cheesecakes, to chocolate bars & more! Simple recipes kids can recreate at home-with minimal parent supervision and no oven! Nut free ingredients only.

    In partnership with H2K Happy Healthy Kids
    Lil’ Hip Hoppers is a fun, upbeat, high energy Hip Hop dance class for young dancers. Students will be introduced to basic choreography and acrobatic movements to promote coordination and agility. Class will also incorporate dance games, stretching, and relaxation. Each class will end with meditation and healthy goals with our very own H2K Bu-Dog.

    Students are taught using a curriculum integrating traditional method books and computer software to allow students to learn at their own pace. Daily practice at home is expected and is essential to student progress. Students in this club are encouraged to register each for the full 2018-19 academic year as a recital is scheduled at the end of the academic year.

  • Karate: 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. (Gr. 2-4)

    As a continuation of the Fall and Winter terms or new to first time participants, Fourth-Degree Black Belt and certified instructor Sensei Lynn Reynolds returns to FAS to help children gain self-esteem as they learn the kenpo curriculum. Relays, games and karate fundamentals lead to improved strength, flexibility and manipulative skills. As the children progress, these activities adapt to further develop physical strength, coordination, balance, mental focus, personal confidence and a spirit of group cooperation. Students advance as quickly as they are able to learn and perform the skills for their rank. New and experienced students are welcome. No uniform is required - students should come in comfortable athletic clothing.

  • LEGO Creative Building: 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. (K - Gr. 2)

    Students are given basic challenges and are encouraged to build creatively in a hands on environment. Participants will learn about basic math, science, and engineering principles including friction, simple levers, motion, and momentum.  In some sessions team building will be encouraged to solve problems like planning a home of the future, a tower, or building simple items for use around the house.

    In celebrating the centennial of Leonard Bernstein's birth, we will hear music from Candide,West Side Story, and historic Young People's Concerts with the NY Philharmonic. Through stories and games, we will continue learning to play the violin in Suzuki and Essential Elements. Please be sure that your child has the right size violin before club begins. At least one year of previous violin study is recommended for this continuing group. Students in this club are encouraged to register each for the full 2018-19 academic year as a recital is scheduled at the end of the academic year.

  • Chess Club 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. (Gr. 2-4)

    FAS welcomes U.S. Chess Life Master Lou Mercuri as lead instructor for this club. Students learn the basic moves of chess and beyond—including checkmating patterns, opening strategies, tactics, famous games from the great players, and visualizing at least a couple of moves ahead. Players have the opportunity to play each other in a supervised setting with helpful tips and advice on how to improve, and they also work in small teams to take on problem-solving challenges together.

    Discover the far out loopy, goopy world of slime! Explore and concoct gooey mixtures in your own slime lab. Make all kinds of borax free slime including instant snow cloud, galaxy, tie-dye, butter, unicorn, glitter, crunchy and more! You will get to take your slime creations home to show off to your friends and family! All materials included, just bring yourselves! No experience necessary.

  • F.A.S.T. Athletics Flag Football: 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. (Gr. 3-4)

    F.A.S.T. Athletics will teach everyone game strategies, catching techniques and most importantly how to work together as a team. The students will be able to participate in different situational games such as Red Zone Defense, fourth and inches, and The QB Challenge as they learn the importance of fair play. Each class will end with a simulated game broken down into 4 quarters – the coaches will have tons of plays ready to go for their teams!
