Reopening Plan - Community Responsibilities

V. Responsibilities of Fay School Community Members

Collaboration, Transparency, and Support

All members of the Fay community -- students, families, faculty, and staff -- have an important role to play in ensuring the success of our reopening plans. Each of us must do our part to adhere to state, federal, and global regulations and recommendations to help control the transmission of the COVID-19 virus and keep our community safe. As a result, there may be instances when families are asked to comply with safety measures that exceed standard guidelines, and we expect our community members to support these requests.

Expectations of All Community Members

  • Follow local, state, and federal advisories and restrictions that have been established to help reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
  • Notify the School immediately if someone in your household tests positive for COVID-19.
  • Stay home if you or someone in your household has come in contact with an individual infected with COVID-19, and notify the School as soon as possible.
  • Avoid unnecessary travel, comply with CDC travel guidelines, and notify the School if you or a member of your household has traveled to a state or country that is not identified as “lower-risk” according to the Massachusetts Travel Order or the CDC.
  • Comply with self-quarantine rules as defined by the State of Massachusetts regarding out-of-state and overseas travel.

Expectations of Parents

The support of parents during this time is vital to the success of our reopening plans, and most importantly the health and safety of all members of our community, both on and off campus. Parents are expected to:
  • Reinforce and observe the School’s health and safety protocols at home (day parents) and follow state- and country-specific protocols (boarding parents). Our division heads will inform parents about the age-appropriate approach to educating students about COVID-19 and the importance of following health and safety recommendations at all times.
  • Screen children daily before school. The School will provide an online tool for parents of day students to use to attest that they have completed the screening steps each day. The Massachusetts Department of Health has provided a helpful online tool for assessing symptoms of COVID-19. We will share details about the online tool, which will be provided by Magnus Health, in the coming weeks. Boarding students will be screened daily by dorm parents.
  • Send students to school with a face mask every day. Teach your child how to properly use and remove a face mask. If using fabric masks, ensure that your child’s mask is cleaned regularly. Please note that neck gaiters will not be allowed.
  • Pick up your child during the school day if he or she becomes ill. Parents of boarding students must provide the name and contact information for a Local Emergency Contact who can be available if needed to collect a boarding student from school within 24 hours.
  • Immediately inform the school if your child exhibits any symptoms of the COVID-19 virus, and keep him or her at home.
  • Immediately advise the School if your child or other family members have been in contact with an individual who has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.
  • Comply with self-quarantine rules as defined by the State of Massachusetts regarding out of state and overseas travel.

Responsibilities of Fay Faculty and Staff

The School is committed to taking all reasonable precautions to limit students’ potential exposure to the COVID-19 virus while on campus. The health and safety protocols established at Fay will continue to meet at least the same standards prescribed by the State of Massachusetts and other agencies. The School will ensure that faculty and staff receive training and guidance regarding these protocols and will monitor their implementation. Health and safety protocols will be adjusted if and as needed, and parents will be notified of any significant changes.
