Fay Wrestlers Qualify for State Championships

On February 3, 15 members of Fay’s wrestling team competed in the Massachusetts Youth Wrestling Association (MYWA) South/West Sectionals. Twelve of those wrestlers qualified for the MYWA State Championships, with three taking first place finishes.
In the Novice division, James B. ’22 and Ryan B. ’23 both qualified for the state tournament, with James finishing in third place in the 138lb weight class.
In the Middle School Division, 10 wrestlers qualified to move on to the state championship, led by Tyler B. ’21 and team captains Ibrahim A. ’20 and Chris M. ’20, who all finished in first place. Tyler, Ibrahim, and Chris led the team to a third place overall finish in team points, behind Natick and Falcon Youth Wrestling. Other wrestlers who placed included Patricio H. ’20 and Aleksandr G. ’21 in fourth place for their weight classes; Jacob S. ’22 and Slava I. ’20 in fifth place; and Mujeeb A. ’21, Will B. ’21, and Nolan H. ’20 in eighth place in their respective weight classes.
The State Championships will be held at Reading High School in Reading, Massachusetts, on February 17 and the NEJP Season Championship tournament will be at Fessenden School on February 23. Coach Eric Lane is optimistic about having one of Fay’s strongest teams in recent memory as the wrestlers move into the final stretch of the winter sports season. Go Fay!
