How to apply for financial aid
We believe that money should not come between a qualified student and an education. Fay School is committed to building and maintaining a diverse community. While we strive to attract students and families from all cultural, socioeconomic, and geographic backgrounds, we also understand that the cost of attending Fay may be too great a burden for some families. To assist these families, the Board of Trustees annually sets aside a fund specifically for this purpose.
WHO RECEIVES FINANCIAL AID?
Financial aid is given in the form of a grant. In order to receive a grant, families must demonstrate that they have the NEED for this type of assistance. Grants are not based on academic, artistic, or athletic achievement.
Fay subscribes to the principles of good practice and services of the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) in Pittsburgh, PA. SSS provides Fay with the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) to distribute to families applying for aid. The PFS is analyzed and the results are used to GUIDE the Financial Aid Committee in determining whether or not a grant will be offered and for what assistance the family qualifies. All of this, however, is subject to the availability of financial aid funds
HOW IS NEED DETERMINED?
SSS determines need by using a formula which considers all areas of a
family’s financial situation. Here is a list of what might go into
determining a family’s need:
- incomes of both parents (taxable and nontaxable)
- number of dependents
- age of both parents
- the number of children attending tuition-charging schools
- living expenses
- retirement
- medical expenses
- debts and unusual expenses
Please remember that because a family’s financial situation may change
from year to year, it is necessary to reapply for financial aid each school year.
